eLORAN’s roots come from maritime navigation. LORAN was first developed during World War II for maritime and aircraft navigation, ensuring our military cargo and troops ships made it safely to home port. Today, the maritime landscape has changed dramatically. Larger ships, international trade and tighter harbor/river approaches call for highly accurate positioning and navigation capabilities which are critical for life and property safety. eLORAN can dramatically improve the accuracy of maritime and port navigation under extreme conditions and when traditional GPS/GNSS systems are degraded.
Asset tracking relies on GPS/GNSS to derive its location. GPS/GNSS jammers are the primary weapon used for theft of tracked assets. Each year over 8 million containers pass through US ports and incidents involving theft exceed approximately $3B annually. The majority of these incidents are the result of GPS/GNSS jamming to interrupt the asset tracking device inside the container. Since eLORAN is extremely difficult to jam or spoof and has no common failure modes to GPS/GNSS, operators and logistics companies can better protect their assets, ensure delivery and reduce their cost of loss and insurance.
